ISI chief Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum has been given a one-year extension

Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq has confirmed the extension of the tenure of ISI chief Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum and said that this extension is done for continuity of policy.

Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum was due to retire at the end of this month but will now hold the post for at least one more year.

Nadeem Anjum, head of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI, assumed charge of his post as DG ISI in November 2021.

Before DG ISI, he was Corps Commander, Karachi

Who is General Nadeem?

Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum replaced Lt Gen Faiz Hameed as DG ISI who held the post for more than two and a half years.

The announcement of the appointment of Lt. General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum as the new chief of ISI by the Pakistan Army came out on October 6, but the notification of his appointment by the Prime Minister House came out three weeks later.

Lt Gen Nadeem is a tough and quiet officer in the army and belongs to the 28 Punjab Regiment. When he was a brigadier, he also commanded a brigade during operations in tribal areas

Nadeem Anjum studied at the Royal College of Defense Studies, from which General Pervez Musharraf and General Raheel Sharif were also graduates of the same college after this course, he was appointed as Major General Inspector of FC Balochistan North

He stayed there as a Lieutenant General for some time in the Command and Staff College. After the alleged kidnapping of IG Sindh by the army in Karachi, he was appointed as the new Corps Commander of Karachi in place of Lieutenant General Humayun Aziz.
